Activity Groups
Session
The Session is the
governing body of our local church. It's members serve on separate
committees to deal with different areas of our church life and report back
to the Session for action. These are dedicated people, elected by the
congregation to do God's work through our church. There stated meeting
time is 7:30 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month. They welcome
guests.
Board of Deacons
The Board of Deacons is a
group of people, elected by the congregation to serve the people of our
church. They do funeral receptions, wedding receptions, prepare and
serve communion, manage the weekly ushers, visit the sick and shut-ins,
deliver flowers to those who can't come to church, send cards to the sick
and bereaved as well as cards to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, etc.
Their dedication to their job is remarkable as they do God's work.
Chancel Choir
The Chancel Choir participates
in the worship services from September through May each year. They
sing modern religious anthems as well as classical religious anthems and
cantatas. Their regular rehearsal time is 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday
evenings. It is a fun group that takes it's worship through music
seriously. The choir is directed by Austen Wilson. He makes it
fun while being serious about the quality of music on Sunday morning.
He is always looking for more voices--come join the choir.
Jubilation Hand
Bell Choir
The gals in this bell choir
have entirely too much fun, but it seems that is alright because they
produce beautifully rung music as they praise God in their own way.
The church is fortunate to have a large set of bells and chimes, but it is
even more fortunate to have the ringers that use them to create beautiful
music. This choir normally plays from September to June and they
practice on Tuesday evenings. This might be something you would like
to do, if so, you would be welcome to "chime in." Lisa Jones directs
this choir
Presbyterian Men
If you are a man, you are
welcome to join the Presbyterian Men as they meet for breakfast on some
Saturday mornings. They meet, enjoy the fellowship, have a short
devotional presentation and discuss items of current interest. It is a good thing to
do on a Saturday morning. You are welcome to join them.
Presbyterian
Women
Presbyterian Women serve an
important function in the church by providing an opportunity for growth in
their faith, fellowship, support and outreach for mission. They invite
all women of the church to attend one of the Circle meetings that are held
from September through May. There are four active Circles, including
three study circles. They are committed to nurture their faith through
prayer and Bible study, to support the mission of the church worldwide and
to work for justice and peace, and to build an inclusive, caring community
of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), and witnesses to
the promise of God's kingdom.
Mariners
The Mariners is a Presbyterian
adult organization which meets on Saturday evenings, about every other
month, for fellowship and
worship using a nautical theme. The officer are named after the naval
officer names, as Captain, Purser, First Mate, etc. It is a good way
to have fellowship with good people as you worship God. You are
welcome to come aboard and join this fellowship.
The Youth Group
The Junior and senior high
youth of our congregation are led by Beth Douma. It is a very active
group that have a great fellowship. These are the future leaders of
our church. They usually meet every Sunday after the worship service
in their Youth Room. During the summer, they meet irregularly for
special events. They do service projects that benefit the Have A Heart
project, the Westminster FISH food pantry and the Growing Home project.
Youth in grades 6-12 are welcome to join in the fun--and they do have fun.
If you wish to join the Youth Group, call Beth Douma at (303) 753-6887.
Dorcas Club
The Dorcas Club is designed
for single women and has members from several denominations in the community
to share programs and life experiences. They meet on the third
Saturday of the month, usually at 1:00 p.m. in the Gold Door Room.
Dorcas is open to all interested ladies.
Book Club
At the Book Club gatherings
the group picks a book for all to read and then at the next gathering that
book is discussed. Books of all types have been chosen, secular in
nature but many thought provoking topics about religion and life
experiences. It is good to hear the interpretations of other readers.
All are welcome to join in with this fun group, and one of the best things
is the desert. It is headed up by Gigi Nielson and Lisa Jones and
usually held in their home. Meetings are not regular, it seems they
vary according to the thickness of the current book.
