A MESSAGE FROM HAVE A HEART
by Jo Smith
Through the years HAVE A HEART has seen many community service volunteers -- some completing a school requirement of community service hours, some fulfilling court-required hours for various offenses, some who just enjoy helping at HAVE A HEART. Here's one: Jonathon who is fluent in Spanish, a sophomore in Dist. 12, is required to do 25 hours per year, which he has been doing at HAVE A HEART for 3 years. He is unusually shy, but on Saturday he chattered in Spanish giving directions about school supplies. One lady said, "I don't speak Spanish," so he stopped for a minute and then ujttered the directions in English, showing no shyness. (Note he's not even a District 50 kid.)
Another volunteer is Juan, who who had only 4 hours of required community service which he completed weeks ago, but came to fill backpacks; then again to hand them out. There are many things a teenager could do on Saturday mornings, but he likes helping at HAVE A HEART.
We've mentioned Jerome before. He is 21, now a Marine and has been helping at HAVE A HEART since he was 7 years old. When he helped this past Saturday he told us he will leave next week for Afghanistan for a second deployment there. He surely represents the best of HAVE A HEART volunteers. Please keep him in your prayers as he begins another tour.
Have A Heart - Help!
by Barbara Day
The donations of Clothing to HAVE A HEART have been overwhelming, which is both wonderful and a concern at the same time. I am having a difficult time staying on the top of it. So I could use your help. I could use people to go to the center and help sort and hang clothes, but also I could use help with laundry.
If you could help me I will appreciate all the help I can get. Call me @ 303 428-0167 or email me at arichday@gmail.com.
